Driver Responsibility Assessments In New York Based Upon Points

If you accumulate six points on your driving record in any eighteen month period,  the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will charge you one hundred dollars a year for three years as a "Driver Responsibility Assessment". The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will charge you an additional twenty-five dollars a year for each point you accumulate over six points on your driving record in any eighteen month period as a "Driver Responsibility Assessment" . The assessment calculation includes points accumulated while operating any motor vehicle, motor boat or snowmobile. You cannot avoid the "Driver Responsibility Assessment" by taking a "Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention Course". If you fail to pay the assessment the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will suspend your license.  An out-of-state licensee must pay the "Driver Responsibility Assessment" if he or she accumulates six or more points in New York State in any 18 month period or risk having their New York State driving privileges suspended until they do pay it.
